SONG: Around 450 people gathered to welcome the arrival of the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2024 convoy, which included national security veterans, school staff, members of Komuniti Madani, and students from SJK (C) Hin Hua, here.

Katibas assemblyman Lidam Assan said the students’ enthusiastic cheers represented the voices of future leaders and their awareness for national unity, whose character must be nurtured.

“The Malaysian Information Department’s (JAPEN) efforts to instil patriotism by encouraging the community to raise the Jalur Gemilang during National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations are highly commendable.

“Their role in reminding us of the sacrifices made by past leaders highlights our duty to preserve the legacy of independence and safeguard national unity from any threats,” he said during the welcoming ceremony on Wednesday (Sept 11).

He added that as an independent and sovereign nation, Malaysia’s political, social, and economic stability must be protected, as instability could disrupt prosperity, reduce foreign investment, and limit job opportunities.

“Our goal is to achieve high-income nation status, create job opportunities aligned with current needs, and maintain strong social cohesion, which requires forward-thinking citizens,” he added.

Lidam also encouraged Komuniti Madani to actively promote patriotism in their communities and serve as official government representatives in disseminating information, policies, and initiatives aligned with the Malaysia Madani concept, while promoting the significance of national independence.

Meanwhile, Sarawak JAPEN Assistant Director Ajes Tuah said the KMJG 2024 convoy began its journey across Sarawak on August 3, covering 22 stops from southern to northern Sarawak in phases.

“Phase 1, held from August 6 to 10, covered the districts of Lundu, Sematan, Samarahan, and Serian. Phase 2, from August 25 to 31, spanned from Limbang to Sibu.

“The final phase, from September 7 to 16, will cover Kapit to Sri Aman, with KMJG participants taking part in the highlight event of the Sarawak-level Malaysia Day celebration in Sri Aman,” he said.
