SIBU: Three boats at Jalan Khoo Peng Loong wharf here were destroyed in a fire this morning.

No one was injured in the incident.

According to Fire and Rescue Department Zone 4 chief Andy Alie, they were alerted at 1.32 am and sent 10 firefighters from Sibu Central fire station to the scene.

“The operations commander assessed the situation and instructed the firefighters to lay out two 200-foot hoses to tackle the blaze. Given the presence of oil in the boats, the commander ordered the firemen to use foam to extinguish the fire,” he said in a statement today.

Andy said the fire was brought under control by 2.10 am and after ensuring the situation was safe, they returned to base at 2.14 am.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
