KUCHING: A man managed to escape unharmed after the 38 tonne palm oil-laden tanker he drove went up in flames.
The lorry driver was at Jalan Kampung Meranek, Kota Samarahan when he noticed smoke coming out of the lorry’s tyres.
He immediately pulled over, exited the vehicle and ran to safety.
State Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said a team of firefighters from the Kota Samarahan fire station were deployed to the scene after being informed of the incident at 6.07am on Friday.
The firefighters took less than 30 minutes to get the flames under control and the fire was totally put out at 7.10pm.
The driver’s cabin was fully destroyed while the tank sustained eight percent damage.
No injuries or casualties were reported during the incident.
