MERADONG: The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) programme for Meradong District was officially launched today (Sept 12) by Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing at the Dewan Serbaguna Pejabat Daerah Meradong.

Ding encouraged all citizens to show their love for the country during this National Month by flying and decorating their homes with the Jalur Gemilang.

“I urge everyone to unite and foster a sense of patriotism by decorating various locations such as offices, supermarkets, schools, villages, and other public places with the Jalur Gemilang. This is not just a decoration but a symbol of our unity as Malaysians and a representation of our free spirit,” he said.

He added that Malaysia, particularly Sarawak, is unique due to its diverse ethnic composition, where people live in harmony and prosperity.

He noted that this strong social cohesion has played a vital role in contributing to national unity and forming a multicultural Malaysian identity.

“The diversity of ethnicities, religions, cultures, and traditional heritage that live under one roof of unity must be defended, especially as we move into a more advanced and challenging future for the millennial generation.

“We must work together to maintain our social cohesion by strengthening the spirit of unity while putting our whole heart and soul into defending the independence we have achieved today.

“The KMJG programme is an initiative and approach by the government to instil and promote a sense of love for the country across all levels of society nationwide through the waving of the Jalur Gemilang, the national flag of Malaysia,” he noted.

He went on to urge the host of the programme, the Information Department, to continue conducting programmes that nurture patriotic spirit among Malaysians, especially in the era of digitalisation, to ensure the nation’s sovereignty and identity are preserved.

Meradong is the 21st checkpoint out of 26 in a journey led by seven vehicles from the Sarawak Information Department, under the leadership of deputy director Ajes Tuah. The journey will conclude in Sri Aman on Sept 16.
