KUCHING: The Swinburne Indoor Open 2024 aims to provide younger players with tournament exposure in frisbee.

Adriel Wong, the tournament advisor, said that the event is designed to introduce and develop younger and newer players from Kuching, giving them a taste of tournament play in ultimate frisbee.

“The main focus of ultimate frisbee is the spirit of the game.

“Younger players will not only develop their competitive skills but also experience the camaraderie and spirit of ultimate.

“As a self-refereed sport, understanding foul calls, travels, and fair play is crucial,” he told Sarawak Tribune on Thursday.

Adriel expressed his hope that the tournament will continue to grow in the future.

He highlighted this year’s addition of the ‘Best Spirited Team’ award, which is unique to the Swinburne Indoor Open.

“To win the ‘Best Spirited Team’ award, we have introduced a new rule requiring all teams to participate in a spirit game after their matches.

“The spirit circle is also an interesting feature where teams, regardless of the outcome, gather to discuss and encourage each other to maintain high spirits,” he explained.

Adriel also shared that frisbee players from Sibu, Limbang, and Malaya will be participating in this year’s Open.

For the record, this will be the first time the Open will welcome teams from outside, having previously been an in-house event.
