SIBU: A lorry driver escaped possible injury or even death when his vehicle caught fire at Jalan Lanang around 9pm on Sunday (Aug 22).
A spokesman from the Sibu Central fire station said the 41-year-old driver who was alone, smelled smoke and immediately suspected that it came from the lorry’s engine.
“Worried that something was wrong, he stopped on the roadside. When he got down, he saw there was a fire inside the engine compartment,” the spokesman said, adding that the driver called the fire station around 9.16pm.
By the time the team firemen arrived at the scene, the fire had completely engulfed the front of the truck.
The firemen managed to stop the fire from spreading to the rest of the truck.
