SRI AMAN: A lorry driver and his passenger escaped unharmed as their lorry carrying oil palm suddenly caught fire at the Engkilili junction, Jalan Sri Aman-Betong on Monday (Jan 18).

Sri Aman fire chief William Baheng said they received a distress call on the incident around 5.55am and deployed firefighters to the scene.

Upon arrival, they discovered that the lorry’s rear tires were on fire.

According to the driver, he noticed thick smoke and fire coming from the rear side of the vehicle.

He stopped the lorry by the roadside and tried to extinguish the fire himself with mineral water, but to no avail.

After ensuring the scene is secure, the team departed back to the station.
