KUCHING: A man in the passenger seat of a sedan car was killed early yesterday morning after he was thrown from the vehicle, which had rammed into a road divider at Mile 15, Jalan Kuching-Serian.
Four other occupants of the vehicle, including a woman were severely injured in the 2.40am single-vehicle-collision.
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the deceased was identified as Lai Boon King, 57, from Mile 56, Jalan Kuching-Sri Aman.
“They were heading to Kuching from Serian and hit a dog at Mile 15 before crashing into a road divider. The impact of the crash has caused the deceased (right rear passenger) to be thrown out of the vehicle and was later pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene due to severe head and body injuries.
“The 18-year-old driver from Serian suffered injuries to his right hand while the other two male passengers, aged 17 and 22, suffered serious injuries on their left leg and face,” he said when contacted yesterday.
He added that the 22-year-old Indonesian female passenger suffered a severed right hand following the crash.
“Victims are now seeking treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH),” he noted.
The cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
