KAPIT: A young boy is feared to have drowned in the Rajang River after the boat that he and his family was on sunk near Wharf Batu at Kapit Town.
10-year-old Jenggut Anak Antas was among four who were on the boat. Three others managed to swim to safety.
The boat was believed to have sunk after an engine failure, causing it drift and collide against a docked barge.
The State Fire and Rescue Operation Centre (Bomba) said it was informed of the incident, which happened at 9.30am today.
The incident was reported by the Kapit district police, following a report lodged by the victim’s father, Antas Anak Agang.
“According to the operation commander on scene, there were four victims on board the boat.
“Three of them managed to save themselves, however, the fourth victim was a male child, around age 10, has fallen into the Rajang River,” Bomba said.
The status of the victim is unknown.
