SIBU: A 10-year-old boy drowned in the Bukit Lima Swimming Pool here on Sunday (Dec 30) afternoon.
Sibu OCPD, Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the victim, Brynden Baro Bata, went to the pool at 5.30pm with his mother and sister for a swim.
The victim’s mother, who swam in the main pool, left her two children in the children’s pool.
“All of a sudden, the 6-year-old’s sister informed her mother that her older brother was unconscious in the pool.
“The victim’s mother immediately sought help from the public to send him to the hospital,” he said.
Upon arrival at the hospital, the victim was confirmed dead by a medical officer on duty, said Stanley.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the pool had many visitors during the incident.
“The mother then panicked and could not ask the other children what actually happened.
“The case is classified as sudden death,” he said, adding that the victim had heart disease and asthma.
In this regard, Stanley advised the public, especially parents who take their children swimming, to avoid leaving them alone without adult supervision.
