KUCHING: One hundred families at Kampung Munggu Sawa lli and Ulu now have clean, filtered water to drink everyday – thanks to Bitnicx Exchange.
The caring company donated 100 water filters invented by Efinity Social Enterprise to the 100 families on Jan 19.
The pump for each water filter is operated manually.
Co-founder of Bitnicx Exchange Johnny Bong said his company decided to donate the water filters because of the poor quality of water in the villagers.
“We checked the water supply from the pipes and found out that their water was not clean and clear. The villagers told us that they just boil the water they
used for drinking, cooking and others.
“We showed the ‘Tuai Rumah’ (village headmen) and a few men how to set up and use the water filters. They were amazed and excited to see clean water coming out from the filters.
“We were glad to contribute back to local communities that needed assistance because everyone deserves clean water and a better life,” he said.
Bong said the villages were accessible only by four-wheel drive vehicles.
“It’s over two hours’ drive from Kuching to Simunjan. Then another one-hour bumpy journey from Simunjan to the villages.
“We collaborated with a charity team consisting of pharmacists, dentists and doctors to offer the villagers free health screening, too,” he added.
