KUCHING: Some 100 Red Crescent Link members from six schools participated in a Marching Camp jointly organised by Malaysian Red Crescent Stampin District of SMK Bandar Kuching No 1 and SJK Chung Hua No 5 Kuching last Saturday.
The schools were SJK Chung Hua No 1, SJK Chung Hua No 2, SJK Chung Hua No 5, SK Kenyalang, SK Tabuan and Lodge Primary School.
The objectives of the camp which started from 7.30am until 5pm was to improve discipline, unity, cooperation and team work among the Red Crescent link members and provide opportunities to the members to participate in social and cultural interchange.
Marching is one of the most important skills for a Red Crescent member as it trains them in group discipline, instill a sense of belonging as well as responsibility in their duties.
The camp managed to achieve its objectives as the young participants from different races and cultures were able to work as a team.
Jasper Chua Zhen Hong of Lodge Primary School was adjudged the Best Commander of the camp.
His fluent and consistent commands allowed the group to march in consistence, disciplined and team work.
The camp participants were also given a talk on Japanese culture conducted by Yuta Nitani. A health campaign themed “No Aedes, No Denggi” was also held.
