KUCHING: In an operation dubbed “Ops Samseng” Sunday, police issued 100 traffic summonses to traffic offenders, the majority of whom were driving without licence.
Three officers and 32 constables led by ASP Mathew Manggie started at 4pm where a road block was put at Jalan Masja. The operation ended at 11pm.
Head of Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Operation Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the total number of people checked was 97.
Those found without licences were mostly motorcyclists aged between 16 and 23. He said none of them were found under the influence of alcohol or drug abuse.
It is still dangerous for them to be on the road as other road users would be put at risk.
A total of 65 motorcycles and 20 vehicles were stopped and checked.
During the operation, there was no untoward incident and some of the offences included modification of motorcycles and other traffic offences.
Alexson added that more of such operations would be carried out to ensure that road users do not flout the laws.
