KUCHING: Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan was invited to the 30-Hour Famine World Vision Camp to give a talk. The Famine Camp was themed, ‘One Future No Hunger’.
Kelvin Wan of Hope Place was the only speaker invited to share his charity work to participants of the camp. Some 100 youths attended the camp which required them to go without food for 30 hours.
In his talk, Kelvin Wan told the camp participants to start doing charity from young and look around to help the needy.
“Give what you have and you can start charity work in your classroom, like when you see any of your friends having no food to eat during recess. If you have some pieces of bread share them with your friend,” he said.
Hope Place is an NGO that visits the poor and less fortunate families to distribute essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits, and noodles. Many of these families or individuals barely earned enough to get through the month. Hence, many are grateful with the assistance delivered to them.
For families with children with special needs or with elderly or disabled people, they are provided with milk powder, oat and diapers as well.
Hope Place conducts its aid deliveries once every two months because of the many families on their recipients list. There are presently more than 170 families in the list.
