Taekwondo (WTF) upgrading exercise in progress at Satok Training Centre.

KUCHING: A total of 1,000 taekwondo athletes took part in an upgrading exercise here recently.

The participants were from the Sarawak Taekwondo Association affiliates in Kuching, Samarahan and Lundu, namely Kuching Taekwondo (WTF) and Self Defence Club, Bumi Kenyalang (WTF) Taekwondo Club, Perdana (WTF) Taekwondo Club and Kota Samarahan (WTF) Taekwondo Club.

The three-day exercise was coordinated by national examiner, Grandmaster Tan Check Joon (8th dan black belt) and assisted by the respective chief coaches.

Tan Check Joon who is also Sarawak taekwondo technical chairman said it was the first upgrading test by the clubs for the season.

“Most of the athletes were from primary and secondary schools, colleges, teachers trainiing institutes and universities in Kuching and Samarahan divisions and Lundu district.

“Our athletes are well recognised and qualified to compete in various high level championships such as SEA Games, Asian Games and the Olympics,” said Tan.
