1,000 delegates converge for Sibu convention

SIBU: More than 1,000 delegates from 25 branches of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will converge here for the central zone mini convention on Saturday.

The one-day convention will be held at Kingwood Hotel beginning at 8.30am.

PBB president and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will officiate at the event and address the delegates.

PBB secretary-general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, who is the convention’s organising chairman, will deliver the opening address.

In the morning, Land and Survey Department deputy director Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood will give a talk on ‘Land In Sarawak: Ensuring People’s Right Over Land Is Preserved’ while Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) chief executive officer Datuk Ismawi Ismuni will talk on the topic ‘Recoda – Catalyst for Development of Sarawak Central Region’.

Infrastructure and Ports Development Assistant Minister and PBB vice-president Datuk Julaihi Narawi will talk on the topic ‘Infrastructure Development’, and Utilities Minister and PBB vice-president Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom will talk on electricity supply and clean water supply for rural areas.

There will also be a briefing for the PBB central zone election officers on their roles and responsibilities, laws and regulations concerning the election, and also sessions on equipping members with information and latest development in preparation for the state election.

A motion from the PBB Sibu zone delegates will be delivered by PBB Women chief and convention’s organising deputy chairperson Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and in compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs), the PBB Convention this time had to broken down into four zones, with the first one held in Miri, followed by Betong, Sibu and finally in Kuching on October 25.
