KUCHING: About 1,000 personnel from the judiciary and legal fraternity participated in the Opening Legal Year (OLY) 2020 parade here yesterday.
Leading the parade was Chief Justice Tan Sri Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat.
The OLY, which was hosted by Advocates’ Association of Sarawak (AAS) this year, is an annual event where members of the legal fraternity renewed their commitment to the justice system.
Themed ‘Justice and Beyond’, the procession began at 7.30am from the new State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building to Kuching Courts complex.
The procession was followed by a ceremony where the heads of various legal fraternities addressed the gathering at the court house.
Among those who participated in the event were Court of Appeal president Datuk Rohana Yusuf; Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima David Wong Dak Wah; Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Datuk Seri Azahar Mohamed; Federal Attorney General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas; Sarawak State Attorney General Datuk Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashid; Sabah deputy SAG Datuk Nor Asiah Mohd Yusof; Malaysian Bar president Datuk Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor; AAS president Ranbir Singh; Sabah Law Society (SLS) president Roger Chin; Sarawak DUN speaker Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar; deputy speaker Datuk Gerawat Gala; and Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
