MUKAH: A total of 1,000 packets of savoury porridge were distributed to road users passing through Dataran Pehin Setia Raja here yesterday.
Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine said that the programme was organised by the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) Tellian Branch.
“This programme has been conducted annually for several years at all SABERKAS branches across Sarawak. For the Tellian branch, Dataran Pehin Setia Raja is among seven locations where this programme is implemented in the area around Mukah,” he told reporters after completing the SABERKAS Roadshow Programme Tellian Branch.
Regarding the ‘Juh Berambeh Sungkei’ programme, organised by the Tellian Service Centre, he noted that it began in 2017 in a modest manner.
“With each passing year, we’ve seen the programme’s growth, including an increase in participant numbers. This year, we’ve invited several other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to participate and help organise the event, making it more vibrant. Furthermore, the efforts of those involved in preparing the Pehin Setia Raja Square have also helped promote the area as a recreational space for the public,” he said.
