KUCHING: The MyCareer @ Higher Education Ministry (MOHE) Borneo Zone (Sarawak), which is organised by University Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak campus, is set to have approximately 1,000 participants.

UiTM Sarawak rector Prof Datuk Dr Jamil Hamali said the main objective of the two-day programme, which commenced on Monday (May 24) until Tuesday (May 25), is to increase the marketability of graduates in Sarawak and throughout the nation.

He said the programme also aims to help prepare graduates for the challenges of employment.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has brought many challenges to the world and it has also affected future graduates as well as job seekers’ employment prospects. It is crucial for future graduates and job seekers to adapt themselves with the current situation by identifying the competency needed by industry players as well as employers.

“The Career Carnival programme will be conducted virtually with 322 job opportunities in various fields involving 17 employers and agencies. This also provides the employers and agencies the opportunity to fill in the vacancies in their respective organisations,” he said during the virtual launch of MyCareer @ MOHE Borneo Zone (Sarawak) today (May 24).

He noted that the participants can take a career test to better understand their respective career inclination and pathway.

“I hope the participants will seize the opportunity to attend the online interview sessions so they can get their dream job. All of the initiatives under this programme are geared towards helping to mitigate and reduce the rate of unemployment among graduates which will subsequently contribute to the nation’s economic growth,” he said.

The programme was organised in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS), Swinburne University Sarawak, i-CATS University College, Centre of Technical Excellence (Centexs), Kuching Community College and Kuching Polytechnic with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) as the programme’s strategic partner.

Also present during the virtual launch were Education, Science and Technological Research Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee and other honourable dignitaries.
