SIBU: More than 1,000 people from all walks of life attended the Chinese New Year open house hosted by the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Lanang service centre at its new office here yesterday (Feb 12).
According to Lanang MP Alice Lau, her service centre has been hosting open house events every year, but this year’s programme was different as it was held at her new office.
“Actually, every year we have an open house to celebrate Chinese New Year together with all communities. So, we can see that those who come are not only Chinese but also Iban, Malay, and other ethnic groups celebrating this event together at my new service centre.
“This is the uniqueness of Sarawak. We celebrate any festival together regardless of race, religion, and ethnicity,” she said when met by reporters.
Lau said the new office is not only more spacious and convenient to the public but also enables her service centre to provide assistance more efficiently.
“This area is larger and more spacious compared to my old office. So, now the service centre can assist more people at any one time, which was previously not possible because the space was quite small,” she said.
Lau stressed that her service centre provides all forms of assistance including application for aid from both federal and state governments.
