10,000 to walk with mayor

KUCHING: More than 10,000 people have confirmed taking part in the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor’s Walk 2019, making it the largest walk event held here so far.

The walk has also attracted international participants from China, Japan and South Korea.

MBKS Mayor Datuk James Chan said, “The event also welcomes Guro District, Seoul, South Korea Mayor Lee Sung and his team of delegates.

“A total of 9, 000 participants joined last year’s walk.

“MBKS aims cultivate environmental awareness among the participants as well as provide them with bio-degradable plastic bags,” he said during MBKS “Hari Bersama Pelanggan” held at the Stutong Community Market.

Chan also said that during the walk, participants would be encouraged to collect rubbish.

During the event, children will receive free balloons while participants are eligible for lucky draws. Participants who collect rubbish during the walk will also be given gift hampers.

Held for the third time, the event is in collaboration with Ibraco Berhad, MOMAWater Sdn Bhd and Everise Deparmental Store Sdn Bhd.

The event aims to enhance the engagement between family members, friends and co-workers in line with the council’s “Kuching Healthy City” concept.

It also encourages the people to appreciate the green shades around the city. The event on July 29 (Sunday) will be flagged off at the MBKS Foyer at 7am after a short warm up with Zumba at 6.30am.

Participants who have registered for the event are required to present their QR codes when collecting their shirts from 9am to 5 pm on July 22 – 23.

Registration is free and today is the last day for participants to register. The public can register through the ‘Ipeople app’ via smart phones application.
