KUCHING: A total of 1,020 schools in the state are classified as dilapidated.
According to Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research, Dr Annuar Rapaee, the State government is in the process of providing funds to upgrade the dilapidated schools.
He said although some of the schools do not need to be rebuild, they will be improved in terms of facilities and infrastructures.
“The State government will be using its own fund first for the building and improvement purposes of the existing schools, and then it will continue to be funded by the Federal government,” Dr Annuar told reporters after officiating the launching ceremony of the ‘Handing over of XPDC Siswa Kenyalang Adopted Child’ at Kampung Salak near here, yesterday.
He also noted that there are 127 schools in the State with low number of students.
“The government has identified at least 127 schools as anchor schools in the State with less than 150 students, and the schools will be merged.
“However, it is not only about the merger because the infrastructure, the students and the teachers can be collectively put in one place for a more efficient educational experience,” he said.
He also presented RM5,000 grant each to SK Salak and Halaqah Kemajuan Muslim Sarawak (Hikam).
