KOTA SAMARAHAN: Eleven individuals have been called up by the district police headquarters here to help investigate alleged violations of Hari Raya Aidilfitri standard operating procedures (SOPs) in Asajaya recently.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on Monday (May 17) said the police had opened an investigation paper relating to the SOP violations.
It said in a Hari Raya Aidilfitri photo that had been uploaded on Facebook, some people were not wearing face masks and failed to practise physical distancing.
In confirming this, Kota Samarahan police chief DSP Sudirman Kram confirmed that the case was still being investigated and no one had been compounded yet.
“Investigations found that it was just one photo uploaded to social media (Facebook). Several people were not wearing face masks and did not practise physical distancing in a house in Asajaya.
“The photo was first noticed last Saturday (May 15) around 11.35 pm by the Asajaya police station chief, who later found the Facebook user was violating several SOPs in the photo,” he said when contacted.
Sudirman assured the investigation would be completed soon and that the police had called up 11 individuals to assist in the probe.
The case is being investigated under Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) and Section 233A of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
He pointed out that the investigation paper would be referred to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) soon and compounds would be issued to those involved.
