KUCHING : Tupong State Assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman led a parade by 11 village and school contingents from Kampung Gita areas, from Jalan Bunga Raya to the venue of the ‘Ngerayo Di Gita’ programme at the Kampung Gita multipurpose hall, yesterday.
The parade was accompanied by Kuching City North Hall (DBKU) marching band. Speaking at the event, Fazzrudin urged the local community to change their mindset on drug users and not to exclude them from society. He said that by neglecting drug users, they would only worsen their problem and reduce their chance to recover from their addiction.
“Do not alienate them. Instead, get to know them. As it goes along, slowly but surely, instil positivity within them and tell them the dangers of prolonged drug addiction.
“We want them to be part of the community and to be able to contribute something so that their life would be meaningful, thus giving them a purpose in life,” he said.
Fazzrudin also urged parents to always keep an eye on their children’s movement, especially from their early age. “Take note who their friends are and do check their school bags from time to time. This may sound like a small matter, but little things go a long way.
“I would also like to state that if any of us happen to know former drug users who are now fully rehabilitated, we can get them to give talks to our children, especially those who are already addicted to drugs.
“Their experience as user as well as their journey to recovery would be a great lesson to our children,” said Fazzrudin. At the event, he presented aid to 21 fire victims and the needy. Also present was with Deputy Director of National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Kartina Ujin.
