SIBU: A total of 11 individuals including four students at Sekolah Tahfiz Darul Uloom Islamiyyah, managed to escape a scorching death after a fire broke out in their double-storey house on Sunday.

A spokesman from the State Fire Department operations centre said the flames caused about 20 percent damages to two bedrooms in the premises.

It was told that a wife of one religious teacher (ustaz) sprained her leg during their escape. She was given early treatment before being brought to the health clinic for further treatment.

Apart from the students, the other occupants were two ustaz, their wives and three children.

Firemen from Sibu station were deployed to the scene at Jalan Kaka, Kampung Nangka after receiving an emergency call around 4.40pm.

They succeeded in extinguishing the flames within 20 minutes.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
