SIBU: Eleven men who were arrested for gambling last Sunday have been released on police bail to avoid congestion in the police lock-up.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit confirmed that all of them have been released on police bail after action was taken on the group.

“This was to avoid congestion in the lockup as there were some positive (Covid-19) cases recorded there.

“Earlier, a CID team carried out a raid on a premises at Jalan Hii Kah Tung. The team found the men playing mahjong, see kee pui, and tuo gee inside the premises,” he said.

The team arrested the group and seized the items used for the gambling activity and brought them to the police station for further action.
