THE Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development has engaged a total of 1,100 participants across various youth nurturing and empowering programmes in the state this year.
Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said empowering youth entrepreneurship in Sarawak requires collaborations with the private sector, investors, banks, business associations and chambers of commerce.
“This will reduce reliance on government funding and encourage young entrepreneurs to take risks and explore diverse funding options such as venture capital and favourable loans.
“Business associations will provide networking and mentorship opportunities. Future efforts will focus on expanding participation in exhibitions to showcase innovations, attract investments and align with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to appeal to socially private sector partners.
“Strengthening these partnerships and improving access to funding will foster a dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem, empowering youth and contributing to a resilient and innovative economy,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech, Tuesday (Nov 19).
Among the programmes implemented are Sarawak Youth StartUp (SYS) programme, Hari Terbuka Keusahawanan Sosial Belia, SeHEBAT Ideathon and impact pitching, Kursus Keusahawanan – Basic Technopreneur Programme, YES programmes and the Sarawak Youth Business Idea Competition (SaYBIC).
