KUCHING: A total of 115 motorists were ordered to turn back for not having any inter-zone travel permits during the first day of the movement control order (MCO) 3.0 in Sarawak.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said over 15,200 vehicles were inspected at 41 roadblocks throughout the state.
“We received 2,898 inter-zone travel permit applications on Saturday (May 29) and all were approved on the same day.
“We have also issued three compounds to errant individuals for being out in public without valid reasons and violating the curfew time, which is from 10pm to 5am,” he said.
Aidi noted that some business premises were still confused with the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
He said instead of issuing compounds to them on the first day of the MCO, the police took an advisory approach and instructed them to close their premises.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) had announced the implementation of MCO in Sarawak for two weeks from May 29 to June 11.
Throughout this period, only permitted sectors and industries are allowed to operate from 6 am to 8 pm whereas the rest not mentioned in the SOPs, are not permitted to operate.
It also prohibited inter-district and inter-zone travel with exemption given to essential services and those obtaining police permits with valid reasons to travel.
