12 fined for flouting SOPs

The group of individuals found playing snooker being issued a compound each by police for flouting SOPs, including not wearing face masks in a public area.

KUCHING: Five teenagers were among 12 individuals slapped with a compound each (amount not disclosed) for violating the conditional movement control order (CMCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs)on Sunday evening.

Acting Kuching police chief Supt Merbin Lisa who confirmed the case, said all the flouters committed the offence in two separate locations.

“The first case happened around 8.20 pm when a police team conducting patrols in City Square, Jalan Pending, spotted a group of teenagers in the area.

“Upon further inspection, the group aged between 15 and 17, were found violating the SOPs, namely failing to wear face masks in public areas.

“Meanwhile, the second case happened around 9.05pm in a gaming premises at Jalan Song. A team of police found seven individuals aged between 21 and 31, playing snooker in the premises,” he said.

As a result, all the individuals comprising nine males and three females were taken to the police station for compounding purposes.

The compounds were issued under Regulation 17 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations (No.21) Amendment 2021.
