SIBU: Twelve residents were left homeless after a morning fire razed three wooden houses at Lorong Tiong Hua 13 today.

A spokesman from the state Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firemen from Sibu and Sungai Merah stations were despatched to the scene after receiving a distress call around 7.05am.

Upon arriving, the team found that all three houses were completely destroyed, and extinguishing works followed suit to prevent the fire from spreading.

The flames were brought under control around 8.15am and the whole operation ended at 9.40am.

It was reported that the first and second houses each had six occupants, while the third home was empty.

No injuries or casualties were reported at the time of the fire.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.

Also present at the scene were the police and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB).
