BINTULU: Some 12 longhouse chiefs and their Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKs) in Jepak State Constituency here will participate in a river conservation programme aimed at reducing the risks of flooding in their respective areas.
The longhouses are Rh. Buli Jamit, Rh. Randi Belanda, Rh. Henry Ijan, Rh. Dunggat Gani, Rh. Gemat Lebun, Rh. Muhan, Rh. IntingTila, Rh. Musis Bundung Bala, Rh. Seli Sawang, Rh. Chundi Mawat, Rh. Layang Kesiaw and Rh. Engkabang.
They are located along Sungai Semanok, Sungai Setulan, Sungai Mas, Sungai Segan, Sungai Silas, Nanga Tebas and Jalan Samarakan.
Bintulu Member of Parliament, Dato Seri Tiong King Sing, who chaired a meeting with the longhouse chiefs at his People’s Service Centre here recently, said the programme would be carried out by November.
“Each longhouse and their respective JKKK involved in the programme will be allocated RM10,000 for which they would need to submit a report, minutes of meetings, along with pictures before, during and after the river cleaning work,“ he said.
“The chiefs of the longhouses must comply with the rules set by the Department of Irrigation and Drainage”, he stressed.
