MIRI: Twelve new faces were among 32 councillors sworn in at the Miri City Council (MCC) on Sunday.

They will serve from April 1 this year until March 31, 2025.

Making their debut are Yeo Zhi Chao, Jenny Crystal Mansang, Yu Ley Ha, Raymond Jenang,  Saliha Basri, Chia Kah Leong,  Jamil Bujang, Kamarudin Reduan, Huang Hong Siong, Rahim Unsang, Ugat Wan @ Jalong Wan and Flora Usun Lanyau.

The swearing-in was led by Mayor Adam Yii whose term has been extended another three years.

Yii leading the swearing -in ceremony held at the new Miri City Hall on Sunday.

The ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Sim Kui Hian, who is also Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government, his deputy Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil, Minister for Transport Sarawak Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin and Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I Datuk Sebastian Ting.

Cr Arriffin Mohamad has been appointed as the new deputy mayor, replacing Julaihi Mohamad who has served the city council for 15 years.

Yii emphasised that there is no honeymoon period and that the councillors have to prepare themselves to encounter the many and tough challenges ahead in light of their commitments and responsibilities under the ongoing  Miri City Council Strategic Plan for 2021-2025 formulated under the 12th Malaysian Plan (12MP).

Adam Yii retained as Miri City Mayor for another three years.
