KUCHING: Twelve welfare micro-entrepreneurs (UMK) received awards at the Sarawak Welfare Micro-Entrepreneurs Day (HUMKS) 2020 for recording the highest sales.
Of the 12 UMKs, two won in the platinum category (sales revenue exceeding RM300,000 in a year), one in the diamond category (sales revenue between RM150,000 to RM300,000 in a year), seven in the silver category (RM50,000 to RM100,000), and two in the bronze category (under RM50,000).
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated at HUMKS 2020, which was held at Pullman Hotel here on Wednesday (Sept 30).
Present at the event were Abang Johari’s wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang; Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; Assistant Minister of Community Wellbeing Datuk Francis Harden Hollis and Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus.
A total of 116 UMKs attended HUMKS 2020 which had the main objective of recognising UMKs who had succeeded in increasing their monthly incomes above the Poverty Line Income (PLI).
The theme for HUMKS 2020 was “UMK Berjaya, Keluarga Sejahtera” (Successful UMK, Prosperous Family) in order to emphasise the importance of entrepreneurial success in the development of family institutions.
The state government hopes other entrepreneurs can emulate these successful entrepreneurs.
At HUMKS 2020, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange ceremony was also held between the technical agencies and the Social Welfare Department (JKMS).
Among the technical agencies involved were Bursa Niaga Sdn Bhd (Selangor Darul Ehsan), Goods4u Entreprise (Brunei Darussalam) and HMN Nadhir (Sarawak).
