KUCHING: A total of 102 participants from 20 women non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from around Sarawak attended the Sarawak Women NGOs Roundtable at Merdeka Palace Hotel here yesterday.
The programme was organised under the third thrust of the Women and Family Department of Sarawak (JWKS) — leadership and decision makers.
Among the key objectives was to strengthen strategic collaborations between JWKS and active women NGOs in Sarawak as well as explaining the role of JWKS to NGOs so that services would be made more effective.
JWKS is actively working closely with NGOs which comprise various categories such as public service, social, welfare, economy, institutions of higher education, single mother groups, and politics.
Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah officiated at the closing ceremony of the programme.
She commended the passion shown by women in social and volunteerism work.
“When women are given the opportunity and some funding, they can really drive programmes and activities effectively,” she said.
Among the activities conducted were a motivational workshop by Mohamad Ariff Azahari from Positive Impressions and a roundtable discussion session.
Also present were Women and Family Department (JWKS) director Noriah Ahmad, Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) president Datuk Alice Jawan, and Sarawak Women for Women Society (SWWS) president Margaret Bedus.
