SRI AMAN: A total of 120 students in Sarawak were found positive for drugs since January, said State National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) assistant director, Yuliani Yahya.

She said the number showed a sharp increase as compared to 106 students found positive for drugs from January to December last year.

“The statistics is based on urine tests carried by State AADK on students suspected of being involved in drug abuse during the anti-drug awareness campaigns.

“Based on that statistics, the agency will continue to intensify the anti-drugs awareness campaigns at all schools in Sarawak,” she told reporters after attending the ‘Fight Against Drugs’ programme held at Sri Aman Mini Stadium yesterday.

She disclosed that AADK was now focusing on three areas, namely Gita, Samariang and Sri Aman, which have been listed as ‘Orang Kena Pengawasan’ (OKP) before implementing the programme.

“The Sarawak AADK will take all necessary actions to ensure Gita, Samariang and Sri Aman remain as white area,” she said.

He said the campaigns should also include participation from secondary school students.

“I urge all community leaders to report to any individuals, including their own nephews and nieces, who are involved in drug abuse to the relevant authorities,” he said.

According to AADK report, a total of 121 OKP was recorded in Sri Aman since 2015.
