KUCHING: Despite a commanding 95-42 victory over the Kuching Bulls (B) at the 2024 Kuching Basketball Men’s Open, 1212 Kiing head coach Adrian Wong is demanding more from his players, especially the local ones.

Wong noted that there is room for improvement, particularly among the local players.

“Overall, they can play better, especially the locals. I don’t like it when they depend too much on imports,” he said.

“Imports are serving as good teachers for them right now; they have been talking to the local players a lot, teaching them about the right spacing.

“It’s a valuable experience for them,” he told Sarawak Tribune at MBKS Stadium last night (Oct 11).

Wong expressed that while exposure to import players is beneficial, over-reliance on them is detrimental.

Wong highlighted that his role is to introduce a different basketball culture to Sarawak.

“We’re looking forward to the Kuching Basketball League (KBL).

“We’re trying to bring in import teams so that locals can practise against them, gaining physicality and experience from competing with strong players.

“Hopefully, this will lead to better performances in the KBL,” he said.

It was a commanding performance from Wong’s men, who showcased impressive fluidity in their ball movement, effortlessly switching play from left to right.

This seamless coordination made for a challenging and long night for the Kuching Bulls.

The 1212 Kiing played with a remarkable calmness and confidence, fully aware of their strategy and execution.

In contrast, the Kuching Bulls appeared dejected and frustrated, struggling to find their rhythm and unable to put more points on the board.

The disparity in composure and teamwork highlighted the Kiing’s dominance throughout the match which entertained the crowd.
