KOTA SAMARAHAN: The National Entrepreneur Group Economic Fund (Tekun Nasional) Mobilepreneur 2.0 programme has assisted a total of 122 e-hailing riders in Sarawak with a maximum interest-free financing of up to RM10,000 per person.
Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said the financing programme has channelled RM1.15 million in total for e-hailing riders in the state.
“For the whole of Malaysia, we have assisted 1,363 riders with a total of RM10.95 million channelled to financings,” he said during a press conference after officiating at the closing of Sarawak and Sabah Tube 7.0 programme and exchange of memorandum of understanding (MOU) between SME Corp Malaysia and Serba Dinamik at D’Virtual Park Serba Dinamik, here on Saturday.
Wan Junaidi said he had also proposed for e-hailing riders to establish their own cooperatives.
“When they have their own cooperatives, with their own funds and shares from subscription fees, they would have a large sum of money collected.
“Through this, they can then purchase shares from companies hiring them as e-hailing riders for example — Grab, Foodpanda, and so on,” he said, adding that his ministry is looking to negotiate with local e-hailing companies to sell part of their shares.
He emphasised that the initiative would allow for e-hailing riders to be well off in later days when they are no longer capable of riding and working full-time.
“At the end of the day, they will not only become a rider for the company, but also a shareholder.
“If they are no longer a rider when they get older, they can work at the office because they possess shares form the company itself,” he explained.
He assured that e-hailing riders would be able to succeed as entrepreneurs due to collection of funds in details, in addition to the training provided by cooperatives nationwide as well as other agencies.
