KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women has divided the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituencies into 13 zones to facilitate the implementation of its programmes and activities.
PBB Women chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the decision was made after taking into consideration the proximity of constituencies that would be suitable to be grouped under the same zone.
“It was previously divided into 11 zones but we found that some zones had too many or too few constituencies under it. For instance, Jemerong and Daro are closer to Dalat, Balingian and Telian so they would be in the same zone.
“When we have programmes at the different zones, it would be easier to gather the targeted groups from the areas. This would also be good in terms of accommodation and transportation costs.”
Fatimah was speaking to the media after chairing the PBB Women Supreme Council 2022-2025 meeting at the PBB headquarters here on Thursday (July 14).
The Dalat assemblywoman also revealed that the Supreme Council had four focus areas, namely politics, economy, social and welfare as well as youths 18 to 28. She said a bureau had been established for the respective focus areas.
“We also reviewed how we want to strengthen our activities and programmes. The selection of heads and members for the respective bureaus has been made, so they will conduct meetings and discussions on the programmes and activities.”
On the number of PBB members throughout Sarawak, Fatimah said it was an important agenda under the politics bureau to rope in more members for the wing, adding that they would work hard to increase the numbers.
“I am confident that my colleagues are very capable and committed in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities. So, we work towards increasing the number of our members.
“We will also work closely with PBB Youth because it is the way forward for PBB,” she added.
