SPAOH: A total of RM32,500 await winners of Regatta Mangut, held in conjunction with Pesta Buntal here beginning tomorrow.

Festival committee chairman Roslan Senin said 13 teams will compete for ‘King of the River’ title which offers RM5,000 in prize money.

“Among the teams are Bujang Senang Sungai Saribas, Nur’s Gemilang, Team Saribas, Sri Belalang Terbang, Raja Burung Lang Ganas, PDP Belalang Ngelantar, GP Bin Laden, CSB Bin Laden, Khazanah (Serembang), Barracuda, Burung Garuda, 9 Abwab Wali Putih and CSP Qaha.

“So far, things are going well and we are just waiting for the event to officially open this Friday. I am sure many will look forward to the boat race this time after it was last held in 2015,” he told reporters yesterday.

The race will begin at 2.30pm tomorrow with preliminary rounds for Sakai 25, 20 and 10 paddlers.

On Saturday, races will start as early as 8.30am with preliminary rounds for Sakai 30 and 15 paddlers followed by second preliminary rounds for Sakai 25, 10, 15, 20 and 30 paddlers in the afternoon.

All final events will be held on Sunday starting from 9am for Sakai 10, 20 and 30 (‘King of the River’) events followed by Sakai 15 and 25.

Other activities will include football and karaoke competitions, pufferfish fishing and cooking contests, bertandak and bermukun and performances by local artistes Farish Malek and Fiza Ceria Popstar among others.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is expected to officiate at the opening of the festival.
