KOTA KINABALU: One hundred and thirty bodybuilders are taking part in the 50th national bodybuilding championship Mr Malaysia 2019 here from Thursday until Sunday. Championship organising secretary, Joseph Sylbester said that 16 categories were being contested including under and over 70 kilogrammes (kg) junior categories, Masters, women, 55 kg Light Flyweight, 60 kg flyweight and 65 kg Bantamweight categories in the championship.
‘’This is the third time Sabah is hosting the championship after 2007 and 2012. “We are still at the selection process for five participants in each category who will be competing in the final tomorrow,’’ he said here yesterday. Joseph, who is also the Sabah team coach, said that 18 athletes from the state were taking part in the championship. ‘’We target to win at least three gold medals and three silver medals.
We are banking on several athletes to win the medals,’’ he said. He said that among the athletes they were relying on for the Sabah team gold medals were Grace Voo (Over 70 kg junior category), Christie M. L. Cletus (85 kg middleweight category) and Suhaili Toipin (75 kg welterweight category). – Bernama
