KUCHING: A total of 130 new buses equipped with OKU-friendly features, Electronic Ticketing Machine (ETM), as well as GPS and Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) will be used as public transport in Sarawak particularly in Kuching area in a year’s time.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Depar tment Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Haji Shukri witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federal Government, the Sarawak Government and Konsortium BBK Sdn Bhd (KBBK) for the implementation of the Stage Bus Scheme Transformation (SBST) at Water front Hotel Kuching in Kuching last Wednesday.
The Federal Government was represented by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sr i Dr. Ali Hamsa, while Sarawak Government was represented by State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani and Konsortium BBK Sdn Bhd was represented by its Chairman William Chan.
The Sarawak State Government wi l l coordinat e and moni – tor the implementation of the Programme. The Prime Minister had announced the SBST Programme under the Federal Government’s Pledge ‘Aku Janji’ that involved five areas, namely Kangar, Seremban, Ipoh, Kuching and Kuala Terengganu.
The initiative is being implementated to encourage the public to use public vehicles that are efficient with reasonable rates led by Public Land Transport Commission (SPAD) in Semananjung Malaysia, while its implementation in Kuching is led by the Prime Minister’s Department which will be implemented through the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Transport (MIDT) Sarawak.
