GEDONG: A total of 14 boats will ‘shake’ the Batang Sadong River near Gedong town during the Batang Sadong Regatta which will be held for three days starting yesterday.
The boats were the Sri Jaya which will be rowed by a team from Kampung Segera Jaya, Batak Lampong (Lalang Mayak), Bujang Berani (Lalang Hilir), Madinah Race (Kanchong Jaya), Sri Cahaya Punggur (Lubuk Punggur) and Dugung (Kampung Tengah Hilir).
Also participating in the regatta is a boat named Sri Ujud Bungin which will represent Kampung Perintah-Masjid, Belalang Kepayang (Kanchong Baru), Lalang R.T (Lalang Tengah), Cahaya Putera Delima (Lot Baru), Puteri Sadong (Gumpey) ‘Sri Tadeng’ (Tengah Hulu), Team Pulong (Tengah Lama) and Indra Putra (Kampung Tegelam).
The boats will be rowed by seven, 10, 15 and 20 rowers according to the respective categories participated by each team.
Gedong Regatta is main event in the Gedong Sports Carnival 2017 organised by Parti Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Gedong branch.
Other events to be held in conjunction with the Gedong Sports Carnival are futsal, volleyball, aerobic, engine pump boat race, batak lampong, arm wrestling, exhibition and sale of agricultural products, food, drinks and daily products as well as a live band which be perform at night.
Several competitions were held in stages since March 11. According to organizing chairman Ali Bujang, various preparations have been made to ensure the sporting events can be carried out smoothly.
Ali, who is also chairman PBB Gedong branch, said the organising committee are doing their jobs very well and showed good cooperation. In fact, Gedong residents were anxious to participate and witness the regatta.
According to Ali, the opening ceremony is expected to be officiated by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Dato’ Sri Nancy Shukry who is also Member of Parliament for Batang Sadong today.
Meanwhile, the closing ceremony and prizes presentation to King of Batang Sadong River will be officiated by Assistant Minister of Resource Planning and also Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur Development, who is also the Assemblyman for Gedong, Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.
