KUCHING: A new cluster, the Jalan Ho Pin Cluster, has emerged in Samarahan District.
Sarawak Health Department (JKNS) said the cluster was a communal one involving two districts, Serian and Kuching.
“The spread of infection is said to emerge after house visiting during Chinese New Year on Feb 11 to 14. A few celebrations in a number of private houses of relatives and friends in Samarahan, Serian and Kuching.”
The index case, Case 7,636, is a 22-year-old local woman who tested positive after undergoing test on Feb 18.
“Another 13 new cases were detected. As of Feb 25, 120 people had been screened.
“Out of this, 14 were found positive, including the index case; 41 were negative while 65 are still awaiting results.
“Further investigation and intensive contact tracing are actively being carried out,” JKNS said in its daily Covid-19 update issued by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) on Thursday (Feb 25).
The Jalan Ho Pin Cluster brings the number to 26 active clusters across the state.
Gelong Cluster, Kapit recorded the highest new cases with 19.
Emperoh Jambu Cluster, Kuching also saw 16 new cases, bringing the total to 117.
“510 individuals were screened and 207 were negative while 186 are still waiting for results.”
Sungai Bakong Cluster, Maradong recorded 13 new cases, bringing the total number to 135.
“747 individuals were screened and 430 were found negative while 182 are still waiting for results.”
