KUCHING: A 14-year-old was among the four males arrested in a raid on an alleged illegal gambling call centre at house in Jalan Stutong, on Wednesday (Nov 25).
Kuching police chief, ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said that the 1.20pm raid was conducted by a team of CID from Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD).
All of the suspects were Indonesians, aged between 14 and 29 years old.
“All of the suspects are believed to be the workers of the 24-hour premises and would reach out to potential customers by using applications such as WhatsApp and WeChat.
“After payment has been made, they would then give a password to the customers for the access to the online gambling website,” he said.
Moreover, Awang Din also stated that the suspects were currently being locked up and the case will be investigated under Section 4(1)(g) of Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
“The police also seized various smartphones and computers that were allegedly used to run the centre,” he added.
