KUCHING: The Malaysia Civil Defense Department (MCDD) Sarawak has acquired 15 four-wheel drive ambulances to improve emergency services in the state’s rural areas.
As of now, eight ambulances have already reached MCDD Sarawak, with seven more expected to arrive soon. These vehicles will be vital for managing disasters, particularly in hard-to-reach rural areas, given the state’s geographical challenges.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he is confident in the department’s decision to distribute these assets, considering factors such as the state’s geography and disaster history in each district.
He urged the districts receiving the ambulances to take good care of them and provide the best possible service to their communities.
He said this in a text speech read by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during the handover ceremony for the four-wheel drive ambulances and Sarawak’s Honorary and Associated Officers’ appointments took place at PUSPA Sarawak, Jalan Diplomatik today (July 21).
The eight ambulances were allocated to MCDD stations in Serian, Matu, Betong, Belaga, Debak, Selangau, Kapit, and Lawas.
In addition to this, Abang Johari praised the appointment of nine associate officers from different professions, hoping that these appointments would bolster MCDD Sarawak’s disaster management services.
He called for more support from corporate and political figures in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to join the Civil Defense Force as associate officers, showing their backing for this essential service.
