15 compounded for not wearing face masks

KUCHING: Police have issued 15 compounds to individuals in the state on Thursday for not wearing face masks in public places.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said the police will continue to enforce the standard operating procedures (SOPs) including the use of face masks in public places.

“Padawan recorded the most compounds issued with nine, followed by Kuching and Kota Samarahan with two compounds each.

“One compound each was issued in Miri and Betong, with one arrest in a furniture store in Pusa, Betong,” the statement read.

On the inter-zone travel restriction in Simunjan and Sri Aman, police recorded 1,480 vehicles that have passed between zones (1 and 2) from Aug 6 to 7.

Of the total, 1,475 of them have obtained travel permission and five were ordered to turn back due to not having a travel permission letter.

To date, 1,846 premises have been monitored throughout the state. They are restaurants (408), supermarkets (295), banks (121), public markets (112), places of worship (97), government offices (93), leisure places (46), construction sites (23), factories (nine), hawker stalls (five) and others (637).

The committee also informed that 1,002 vehicles have been inspected in six Ops Benteng roadblocks in five districts — Lundu (two) and one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu.
