KUCHING: Eight exponents of the Martial Arts Federation of Malaysia will represent Malaysia in the Second World Cup Wushu Championship to be held from 27 April to 2 May, 2017 at New Taipei City Gymnasium in Taiwan.
The championship is organised by Taiwan Wushu Association and the Martial Arts Federation of Malaysia was the sole organisation to represent Malaysia at this prestigious Championship. The federation will be represented by the Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak.
The contingent leader Grandmaster Prof. Dato Sri Dr. Song Swee Hee, who is the president of Martial Arts Federation of Malaysia and chairman of Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak, told the media that a target had been set to win 15 gold medals at the championship.
“In 2014, we managed to win 14 gold medals, three silver and one bronze for Malaysia, and for this year, we want to win at least 15 gold medals.
“Our eight participants will take part in over 20 events and this year is the second time we are taking part in the championship,” he said, adding the federation had prepared six months’ training for the participants.
Earlier, Works Minister Datuk Seri Haji Fadilah Yusof officiated at the handing over of the national colours to Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak.
He hoped that the contingent could achieve the target by bringing back at least 15 gold medals for the country.
