KUCHING: Fifteen residents were left with nothing but clothes on their backs after their single-storey house in Kampung Haji Baki here was completely engulfed by a wee-hour fire today (Mar 3).
No injuries or casualties were reported as the residents managed to evacuate themselves to safety in the 2.44 am incident.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firemen from Batu Lintang and Tabuan Jaya stations were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call.
Upon arrival, they found that the house was beyond saving and the extinguishing deed was performed.
The fire was brought under control at 3.28 am and overhaul works were carried out to ensure that there is no risk of reignition.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the extinguishing operation ended at 5.30 am. The cause of the fire and losses incurred is still under investigation.
Meanwhile in Serian, a Perodua Kelisa parked in front of a house in Taman Anggerik was badly damaged in a fire around 12.50 am.
Firefighters from Serian station were promptly dispatched to the scene and extinguished the flames using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant.
The flames, which had caused 70 per cent damages to the vehicle, were finally extinguished at 1.05 am.
