SELANGAU: A weekend outing at Selangau Waterfall here, turned into an alarming experience when a headwater phenomenon almost trapped 15 visitors, including six children yesterday (June 1).
The incident is reported to have happened around 5pm at Mile 62 Sepiring, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu.
Five men, four women and six children were stranded in the waterfall area and needed to be rescued.
Responding to a distress call received at 5.19pm, Selangau police together with firefighters and Civil Defence Force (APM) members were dispatched to the scene, about 25km away.
Upon arrival, rescue teams promptly assisted the trapped individuals out to safety.
Fortunately, all of the visitors, aged between nine and 46, escaped unscathed.
The rescue operation ended at 6.30pm.
