KUCHING: Preparations are in full swing for the Para (SUKMA) Malaysia Games XXI with over 150 vehicles ready to support transportation logistics for match officials and athletes.

Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah announced that the Para SUKMA will welcome over 1,290 athletes from across the country, competing from Sept 22 to 28.

She added that the event will involve approximately 2,225 individuals, including athletes, coaches and match officials.

“Transportation for the event includes 150 vehicles, comprising 10 trucks, 62 vans, 45 buses, 15 cars, and 18 Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs),” she said

She then said that these vehicles will facilitate the movement of delegations and ensure the smooth running of the event.

“Additionally, we have partnered with Rapid KL as the official transport provider. Their services are being provided free of charge, with no rental costs.

“The Sarawak government is covering the RM845,000 expenses for transporting the buses,” she said during a media conference after chairing Para SUKMA Sports Master Committee Meeting at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today (Sept 6).

Due to the large reception from the contingents, Fatimah explained that Sarawak will have not just one Chef de Mission, but also an Assistant Chef de Mission to assist with preparations for the Sarawak delegation.

Meanwhile, she disclosed that the opening ceremony of Para SUKMA is set to be officiated by Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at the Stadium Perpaduan in Petra Jaya on Sept 22.

“As for the closing ceremony, it is scheduled for Sept 28, at the same venue, Stadium Perpaduan. The guest of honour will be Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof as well as his wife Datin Seri Ruziah Mohamad Tahir,” she said.

Also present at the press conference were chief executive officer (CEO) of Para SUKMA XXI, Datuk Hii Chang Kee, and Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Ministry’s permanent secretary Datuk Felicia Tan Ya Hua.
